Attending Trade Show Booths

There is no doubt that if you have decided to go to a tradeshow, you are very excited to see the various tradeshow booths, meet people, make contacts, and perhaps find a solution to a problem. This means that you need to adequately prepare to spend 12 to 15 hours on your feet chatting with others.

There's a good bet that if you are attending a tradeshow, you're also attending a three-day seminar that perhaps everyone around the hotel and the convention center is involved with in one way or another. You'll also have a variety of meetings and trade shows to visit. Preparation is essential, well before you arrive.

Your personal appearance is going to be important at any tradeshow. Whether you are a consumer attending a seminar, or an exhibitor, you need to be comfortable, open, and professional at the same time. This requires an outfit that tells people that you're open and friendly and yet still professional. It also must have a lot of pockets. You'll want to store business cards or brochures in one, and keep those you collect in another. Your shoes and socks or hose are going to be vital. Remember, most trade shows are on concrete floors and this means that your body is going to react to this very quickly if you do not have a good set of shoes, and the type of socks or hose that can help support your legs.

Also, be well prepared with either enough postcard type brochures, or business cards. You might think that you're set, but a good bet is to make three times the number that you think you need. Also, many consumers and even trade exhibitors are not going to want to carry around your resume or brochure. Instead, collect business cards and send them one later, or make a quick brochure that's small enough to fit in someone's pocket. VIPs will receive your business card immediately but that's the only exception.

Also, if you're there to meet a specific business owner or contact, don't try to hunt them down. Instead, look for them in other areas of the seminar or tradeshow. You might find them in the coffee line, heading for the restroom, or even possibly having lunch. This can give you an opportunity to introduce yourself out of the tradeshow frenzy, and you might just find them more relaxed, rather than distracted by the crowd of consumers.

Heading for a trade show and all of the different trade show booths is an extremely exciting. Make sure you're thoroughly prepared to be on your feet for 12 to 15 hours, have enough brochures or cards, and take the time to discuss business with those you need to contact outside of the tradeshow frenzy.
